For family coverage, the City agrees to pay 75 percent of the medical insurance premium, not to exceed 75 percent of the cost of the PacifiCare HMO plan.
For two-party coverage, the City agrees to pay 85 percent of the medical insurance premium, not to exceed 85 percent of the cost of the PacifiCare HMO plan.
For single coverage, the City agrees to pay 100 percent of the medical insurance premium, not to exceed 100 percent of the cost of the PacifiCare HMO plan.

Short/Long Term Disability
Long Term Care
CalPERS offers long-term care for employees, their spouses, brothers, sisters, mother or father. Enrollment is in August of each year.
Basic Life Insurance
$50,000 life insurance and $50,000 A D & D insurance is paid by the City.
Voluntary Life Insurance
Optional coverage. Up to six times annual salary (maximum $300,000) may be purchased by employee. Spousal coverage up to employee maximum. Dependent coverage up to $10,000.

Voluntary participation – employee-paid. 457 ICMA Deferred Comp Plan
Flexible Spending Accounts
Voluntary participation – employee-paid. Health Care Spending Account – maximum annual deferral is $3,000. Dependent Care Spending Account – maximum annual deferral is $5,000. Transportation and Parking Plan, $105 maximum per month for transportation and $200 maximum per month for parking.

Tuition Reimbursement
Equivalent to the per unit rate at San Diego State University for approved job-related classes or as part of a curriculum leading to an Associate or Bachelor’s degree.

Holidays
Effective July 1, 2008, employees will be credited with 56 hours of holiday credit on January 1st and July 1st of each year in lieu of designated holidays for a total of 112 holiday hours annually.
All such holiday credit between January 1 and June 30 shall be utilized by June 30 or the employee shall be paid for such hours at the employee’s current hourly rate of pay. All such holiday credit between July 1 and December 31 shall be utilized by December 31 or the employee shall be paid for such hours at the employee’s current hourly rate of pay.
Employees may utilize accrued leave (excluding sick leave) on designed City holidays.
Bereavement Leave
Three days for death of employee’s immediate family member. Two additional days may be charged to sick leave upon approval.
Sick Leave
Unlimited Accrual: 12 days per year
Bilingual Pay
$100 per month for eligible employees who speak Spanish or Samoan and successfully pass a City-administered examination.
Uniforms
City will provide annual uniform allowance in the amount of $700.
Special Compensation
- MOTORCYCLE ASSIGNMENT
Each officer assigned to motorcycle duty shall receive four hours of extra pay at his/her regular rate of pay for each week actually worked to compensate for storage and mainte¬nance of the motorcycle at their homes.
- CANINE ASSIGNMENT
Each dog handler shall receive the equivalent of four hours of pay for each week at his/her regular rate of pay to compensate for training, grooming and care of the dogs. This will be in addition to actual training time at kennels in San Diego.
- FIELD TRAINING OFFICER
Sworn personnel who hold a valid POST Field Training Officer's certificate shall comprise a pool from which the Chief of Police may select individual officers to serve as Field Training Officers on an as-needed basis. Effective the first full pay period in July 2008, for each week the officer is selected to serve as a Field Training Officer, that officer shall receive six hours of extra pay at the employee’s regular rate of pay to compensate for the added training officer’s functions and responsibilities.
POST Pay
Intermediate POST: $100 per month. Advanced POST: $250 per month. Police Sergeants will receive Supervisory Certificate pay of $300 per month.
Court Pay
Minimum three hours pay at time and one-half if not on duty.
Veterans Preference
To be eligible applicants must: possess the National Defense Service Medal (given only in time of war); have served a minimum of 90 days active duty; and have been honorably discharged within the last eight years.
