Captain Tom Jones was hired by the Oceanside Police Department in January 1989, after receiving an Honorable Discharge from the United States Marine Corps and serving as a patrol officer for the City of Laguna Beach.

He is currently serving as the Commander of the Field Operations Division, which provides first response to calls for service, specialized field resources, and the Senior Volunteer Patrol Program. He previously held positions in the Department’s Special Enforcement Section, Investigations, and Field Operations, and served as the SWAT Commander for three years.

Captain Jones is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, the Regional Management Academy, the West Point Leadership Program, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy (Class 213), and POST Command College (Class 39). He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from York College of Pennsylvania, a Master of Arts Degree in Management from the University of Redlands, and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from San Diego State University.
