OCEANSIDE, CA — On July 6, 2025, at approximately 6:35 a.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Arthur Avenue following a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a male victim had been attacked by his brother with a samurai sword. The victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Officers then responded to the suspect’s residence in an effort to make contact. After several hours of unsuccessful attempts, the Oceanside Police Department’s SWAT Team was activated and responded to the scene. A short time later, the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Esteban Rivas, exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident. Rivas was arrested and will be booked into the San Diego County Jail for PC 245(a)(1) – Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
