Oceanside Police Department To Conduct DUI Checkpoint

Post Date:07/24/2025 10:45 AM

OCEANSIDE, CA — A Driver’s License/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Checkpoint will be facilitated by the Oceanside Police Department, along with neighboring law enforcement agencies, at an undisclosed location in the City of Oceanside on Friday, August 1st, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on August 2nd.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI Checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking drivers suspected of DUI off the road while also educating non-impaired drivers about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Officers will also ensure motorists present at the checkpoint are properly licensed.

Although DUI incidents are commonly associated with alcohol, many prescription medications are also impairing substances. While a limited amount of cannabis (marijuana) is legal for adults 21 years of age and older to possess, it is unlawful to drive while under the influence of cannabis. Motorists driving while under the influence of any combination of drugs and/or alcohol are subject to arrest.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
