OCEANSIDE, CA — On Thursday, April 16, at approximately 5:00 a.m., officers responded to the area of Mission Avenue just east of Mesa Drive following a hit-and-run collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle traveling westbound on Mission Avenue struck a 76-year-old male pedestrian before fleeing the scene.
Officers later located the suspect vehicle, a 2005 silver Toyota Tacoma, in the 200 block of Los Arbolitos. The driver, identified as a 24-year-old male from Oceanside, was detained and taken into custody.
The male driver was booked on charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. At this time, investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene and is actively investigating the incident.
