Lieutenant Josh Young was born and raised in San Diego County and holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from California State University, San Marcos. He attended the 58th Regional Police Academy in 2003 and began his career as a Police Officer with the City of Oceanside the following year.
Lieutenant Young previously served as a Patrol Officer and as a Detective assigned to the Property Crimes Unit and Regional Auto Theft Task Force. He also served on the SWAT Team and as a member of the Peer Support Team.
Lieutenant Young was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in November 2018, serving as a Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant in the Property Crimes Unit, and lead Sergeant for the Peer Support Team. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in July 2025 and is assigned to the Patrol Division.
