Captain Nunez was born and raised in Lodi, California.  After graduating from the San Joaquin Delta College Police Academy, Captain Nunez began his Law Enforcement career with the Stockton Police Department in July of 2001 and moved laterally to the Oceanside Police Department in January 2012.  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from National University.

As an officer, Captain Nunez worked serval assignments including Patrol, SPD SWAT, SPD Canine, SPD Honor Guard, FTO, Gangs, Harbor, OPD Mobile Field Force and Less Lethal Instructor.  Captain Nunez was promoted to the rank of sergeant in February of 2018. As a sergeant he was assigned as a patrol supervisor in the Patrol Division.  He also served as a team leader on OPD’s Mobile Field Force team and the Crisis Negotiations Team. Captain Nunez returned to the Harbor in January 2020, where he stayed until his promotion to lieutenant in January 2023. During his time as lieutenant, Captain Nunez was assigned to the Special Enforcement Section in the Investigations Division. 

Captain Nunez was promoted to the rank of captain in May 2025.
